| ASBESTOS REMOVAL |
Because of the insulating and fire-resistant nature
of asbestos, it has been used in many of the products found around
the home, such as: roofing shingles, floor materials, ceiling tiles,
tape joint compounds, wall finishes, cement, electrical insulation
and heating pipe insulation. All asbestos is hazardous and must be
removed by a certified and licensed professional.
Asbestos is an extremely fine fiber that is easily inhaled. Prolonged
exposure to asbestos has been the cause of cancer and severe lung
impairment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has estimated
that 3,000 to 12,000 cases of cancer, usually fatal, are caused annually
in the United States by asbestos exposure.
There is no known safe level of exposure for asbestos. Therefore,
the government agencies such as OHSA (workers), AHERA (schools), and
ASHARA (public buildings) have all passed stringent health and safety
regulations along with imposing severe penalties. Because these laws
are vigorously enforced it is imperative that all property owners
are fully aware of their responsibilities regarding asbestos.
